How to Talk About Your PTO

🌴 How to ask for your scheduled vacation, when interviewing for a job…

⭐️ Timing is essential. Don’t bring up a preplanned vacation while you are in the interviewing process. Wait until after you have an offer.

⭐️ Scheduling matters. If your trip is not for another 6 months, don’t bring it up at all.

⭐️ If your vacation is in the next few weeks, offer that you are willing to start before the vacation and take the time unpaid, or start working afterwards, whatever they prefer.

⭐️ Suppose your vacation is in a few months, let them know after you have accepted the job that you have a prescheduled vacation that you cannot cancel, and that you are happy to take it unpaid, if necessary. They will let you know about PTO, accruing hours, and if you can borrow against your hours, even if you don’t have enough banked.

⭐️ Don’t stress it! This can easily be worked out. Remember to be gracious and polite. Thank yous and kindness can go a long way.
